On Thursday, June 21, 2018, the Wise County Sheriff’s Office announced they received three state grants that will fund School Resource Officers in Wise County Public Schools. The Wise County Sheriff’s Office received the grants through the Department of Criminal Justice Services. The Wise County Board of Supervisors agreed to provide the required matching grant funds for these positions. Two of the grants will continue to fund the officers for J.W. Adams Combined School in Pound, VA and Union Middle School in Big Stone Gap, VA, which are continuation grants that were awarded for the fourth year. The third grant is a new award that will fund a School Resource Officer for the Wise County Career/Technical School, Regional Learning Academy, and Alternative Education Center located in Wise, VA.
