On Friday, June 22, 2018, around 4pm, Knox County Deputy Sgt. Carl Frith received a report that someone in a vehicle had shot at a person on a moped on HWY 11 near Cannon. The caller advised the vehicle, described as a 1995 green Ford Explorer, was now parked at the A&B Market in Cannon. When Sgt Frith approached the vehicle, he observed four men and several firearms inside. The driver, 33-year-old James Thomas of Franklin, Ohio, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and no operator’s license. A passenger, 34-year-old Douglas Edmonson of Corbin, was determined to have shot at the moped operator and charged with wanton endangerment and receiving stolen property after his gun came back as stolen. Two other passengers, Anthony Skaggs, 32, of Gray, and James King, 19, of Corbin, were arrested and charged with possession of controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Along with suspected drugs, several loaded firearms were seized. All four suspects were lodged in the Knox County Detention Center. Barbourville City Police assisted with arrests.
