At a ceremony in Frankfort on Friday, June 22, 2018, 36 new citizens from 26 countries took the oath of citizenship. Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes encouraged the new citizens to be active participants in democracy through voting and civic engagement. Grimes said only one-fourth of Kentuckians showed up to vote to in the most recent primary election. The Secretary of State’s staff attend each naturalization ceremony held in Kentucky to greet new citizens and answer questions regarding voting and registration.
