The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest following a theft investigation. The arrest occurred around 10:05pm on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 off the Cumberland Gap Parkway. The subject, identified as 32-year-old Raymond Jackson of Barbourville was charged with a warrant of arrest for fleeing or evading police and shoplifting. The charges were the result of an investigation conducted by Detective Gary Mehler following the theft of items from a pickup truck in the parking lot of Walmart in southern Laurel County on June 10, 2018. While investigating that incident, the subject came out of Walmart wearing shoes he had allegedly just shoplifted and fled the scene on foot. Jackson was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
