Culvert Replacement Closes Left Fork of Blackberry (KY 3419) in Pike County on Monday, July 23, 2018

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Highway District 12’s Canada Maintenance Crew will close KY 3419 on the Blackberry side of Calloway Mountain from 8am until 3:30pm on Monday, July 23, 2018. Traffic will not be able to go through the work zone site, which is at mile point 10, just above Old House Branch. A six-foot long culvert that runs under the pavement will be replaced during this time. Shane Hatfield, Canada Superintendent, said the bottom of the culvert is rusted at the bottom and in danger of collapsing. Pavement will have to sawed across both lanes in order to access the drainage system, remove it, and install a new culvert. Work is expected to conclude around 3:30pm, but motorists should plan for the road being closed all day and use an alternate route. This work is not to be confused with a week-long culvert replacement project underway on the Smith Fork side of Calloway Mountain, which is a separate project that will close the road there from July 24 through July 31 at mile point 3.7.
