CDC Reports Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Backyard Chickens

A recent report by the Centers for Disease Control has indicated a salmonella outbreak in 44 states. The illnesses started from February 15, 2018 to June 21, 2018. Of the 212 reported cases, five are in Kentucky. While no deaths have been reported, 34 people have been hospitalized. Studies indicated the outbreaks were linked to contact with live backyard poultry, such as chicks and ducklings, which come from multiple hatcheries. The investigation is currently ongoing.
