Knox County Hit and Run Suspect Arrested

A hit and run suspect in Knox County has been apprehended. Deputies responded to the incident on Saturday, July 28, 2018 around 4pm on Callebs Creek Road near Girdler. When deputies arrived, they observed a 45-year-old male victim lying inside a ditch beside the roadway. During the investigation, deputies learned that the victim had been intentionally run over and the perpetrator left the scene in an early 90’s model gray Toyota pick-up. A witness, who was inside the assault vehicle at the time it struck the victim, identified the driver as 33-year-old Eric Smith of Barbourville. Smith was arrested on Monday, July 30, 2018 at a residence on KY 718 in the Stinking Creek community. He was charged with attempted murder and lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
