A husband and wife were discovered shot to death at their home in Letcher County the night of Monday, July 30, 2018. Kentucky State Police Post 13 Troopers Anthony Trotter and Jason Bates were called to a residence on Highway 15 in the Isom community at 8:23pm Monday evening after a family member located the bodies inside a garage. At the scene, Troopers observed two deceased individuals, at which time the coroner was contacted. The victims, 61-year-old Dempsey Cole and 55-year-old Tonya Cole, both of Isom, were pronounced deceased at the scene by Letcher County Coroner Renee Campbell. Both died of apparent gunshot wounds. Initially, this incident is being investigated as a murder-suicide case. Autopsies are scheduled to be performed on both victims at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort.
