Knox County Sheriff’s Office Warning of IRS Phone Scam

The Knox County Sheriff’s Department is reporting a phone scam. The caller claims they represent the Internal Revenue Service and that an arrest warrant has been issued for the victim due to outstanding debt owed. The caller also states that the intended victim can have the warrant removed or canceled by paying a fee over the phone or by a Green Dot card. The sheriff’s office reminds citizens that the IRS does not call citizens about taxes, penalties, or any other supposed debt. If you feel you have been a victim of calls like this, contact the Knox County Sheriff’s Office at 606-546-3181.
