The Hazard Police Department is reporting a phone scam targeting local residents. A Hazard resident reportedly received a call from a man from a 502 area code informing her that she had missed jury duty and warrant had been issued for her arrest. The caller then instructed her to go to a local store and purchase Green Dot cards in the amount of $1900 and call him back with the card numbers. The victim contacted the Perry County Circuit Court Clerkâs office and was informed the call was an attempted scam. Perry County Circuit Court Clerk Charlie Patterson informed the police of the scam and reminds the public they do not solicit money from prospective jurors.
