The Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office is reporting a phone scam. People are receiving calls from individuals stating to be a loved one who has been in an accident and needing money. After eliciting the name of the accident victim from the upset loved one, they claim to need bail money. An individual pretending to be a lawyer will then get on the phone and say they need the money in a few hours. They are asking for around $10,000. If you receive a call like this, check with your loved ones to verify the claim and do not send money to these individuals over the phone.
