Juvenile Suspect in Arson Death Case Arrested Following Multi-County Police Chase

On Tuesday, August 21, 2018, the Ashland Police Department was called to assist fire and law enforcement investigators from Scioto County Ohio in locating a suspect in an arson causing death. The suspect, a 17-year-old juvenile, was located at the Ashland Town Center Mall. As officers converged on the suspect’s vehicle, a Dodge pickup truck, the suspect fled police, striking an Ashland Police unit and other vehicles in the parking lot. The pursuit began in the west end of Ashland, then continued on US 23 through Lawrence, Johnson, Floyd, and Pike Counties. The pursuit covered around 91 miles. Several law enforcement agencies assisted in the pursuit. The juvenile suspect was taken into custody just north of Pikeville after his vehicle ran out of fuel. No name will be released. He was charged with criminal mischief, fleeing and evading police, and wanton endangerment. Other charges are pending.
