The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Office of Highway Safety, the Kentucky State Police, and local law enforcement agencies are joining officers across the nation for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign going on now through September 3, 2018. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Secretary Greg Thomas said that with the expect increase in traffic over the Labor Day weekend, they want Kentucky’s roadways to be as safe as possible for the traveling public. KSP Sgt. Josh Lawson the message is simple: “If you are driving while drugged or drunk, you will be arrested.” The Kentucky Officer of Highway Safety distributes federal grant money provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to increase law enforcement presence during designated holiday periods. During the Labor Day holiday weekend in 2017, there were 57 collisions in Kentucky involving alcohol, resulting in 22 injuries and three fatalities.
