A two vehicle crash on US 23 near the Kentucky and Virginia on Thursday, August 30, 2018 resulted in several injuries and one driver’s arrest. Kentucky State Police were notified of the collision around 11:20am. Investigators initially determined that 51-year-old John Henry Gibson of Seco was traveling south on US 23 in a 2005 Chevrolet passenger car when he observed a traffic safety check detail. He turned around on the roadway and began traveling north in the southbound lane when he struck a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 59-year-old Tony Kiser of Pound, head-on. John Gibson’s passengers, 51-year-old Jennifer Gibson, and 52-year-old Banner Gibson, were injured in the collision. Kiser refused treatment and left the scene with his family. John Gibson was charged with assault, DUI, reckless driving, and other traffic offenses. He was lodged in the Letcher County Detention Center.
