On Tuesday, September 11, 2018, South Floyd Elementary will kick off the first Born Learning Academy of the year. This is the sixth year of the Born Learning Academy. On Monday, September 10, Allen Elementary will host the first Tiny Academy of the Year. A grant from the Toyota Motor Manufacturing, in collaboration with the United Way of Kentucky, partially funds the Born Learning Academy. The Academy’s first session was in November 2012 and parents, caregivers, and children, birth to age five, are encouraged to attend the six monthly sessions. The Born Learning Academy focuses on turning experiences into learning opportunities in order to better equip children to be ready for school. The Floyd County Early Childhood team developed Tiny Academies to offer learning opportunities in schools that did not receive the Born Learning Grant. These academies introduce parents, caretakers, and children to being ready for school.
