On Monday, September 24, 2018, around 3:40pm, Knox County Deputy Sam Mullins responded to a report of a traffic crash involving a Knox County School bus on Macro Branch at Scalf. A 2004 GMC pickup collided head-on with the school bus. It was learned 20 students and a driver were on the bus. Fifteen of the children and the driver receive non-life threatening injuries during the crash and were transported to the Barbourville ARH. The driver of the pickup, Ethan Mills, 19, of Scalf, and a passenger in his vehicle were both injured and transported to Barbourville ARH. The passenger received a major leg injury and was later transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. As a result of the initial investigation, Mills was cited for reckless driving, expired registration, and no insurance. The investigation is continuing.
