On Monday, October 1, 2018, the Perry County Sheriff’s Department received a call of a horse being neglected at 106 Gearl Valley Drive in Lower Lost Creek. Sergeant Ruey Couch and Perry County Animal Control Officer Tom Caudill responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered a horse on a rope, tied to a tree. The horse was without food, water, or shelter, and appeared to be under weight. The owner of the horse, identified as Jerry Jones, was charged with cruelty to animals. The horse was taken to the Kentucky River Regional Animal Shelter in Hazard.
