On Wednesday, October 10, 2018, around 9:10am, Kentucky State Police Post 11, London received a report of a two-vehicle traffic crash with a fatality on KY HWY 3041 in the Corbin community of Whitley County. Upon arrival, Trooper Craig Sutton determined that a 2016 Kenworth commercial vehicle operated by Larry Lyle, 57, of Lexington, was traveling eastbound when he was struck by a 2002 Chevrolet 7500 commercial vehicle traveling westbound, operated by Mitchell Shelton, 40, of Williamsburg. Shelton was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of collision and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Whitley County Coroner’s Office. Lyle was wearing a seat belt and was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of injuries.
