A Letcher County man was found deceased in a pond on his neighbor’s property the afternoon of Thursday, October 18, 2018. Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call at 1:40pm from a man advising that he’d discovered his neighbor in the pond. Troopers responded to the residence on Cornett Branch Road in the Linefork community of Letcher County. During the preliminary investigation, it was determined that 60-year-old Darrell Eugene Maggard, of Linefork, drove his vehicle in to the pond sometime during the previous night. The van Maggard was driving was submerged in the pond and his body was found outside of the vehicle in the water. Letcher County Coroner Rene Campbell pronounced Darrell Maggard deceased at the scene at 4:24pm. No foul play is suspected at this time. The body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy, and toxicology results are pending.
