On Friday, October 26, 2018, Ivanka Trump, advisor to President Donald Trump, attended a roundtable discussion at the Prestonsburg Campus of Big Sandy Community and Technical College as part of an eastern Kentucky workforce training tour. She was joined by Governor Matt Bevin, Congressman Hal Rogers, Secretary of Workforce Development and Education Derrick Ramsey, and CEO of Alliance Resource Partners Joe Craft. Students from the Magoffin County Learning Center, BSCTC, and Interapt shared their stories of success with the programs offered in the area.

Alex Hughes, who completed the Interapt training program, shared his experience working in the current job market, from not being able to get a job bagging groceries, to now receiving job offers as a coder from Silicon Valley. Trump also spoke of the President’s commitment to the American worker initiative, which has governors and private employers pledge to retraining workers for apprenticeships. The group also toured the East Kentucky Advanced Manufacturing Institute in Paintsville and the Space Science Center and Morehead State University.
