Kentucky State Police Post 9 Pikeville has opened a death investigation on Popular Fork in Martin County. Post 9 was notified of a structure fire around 10:30am Thursday, October 25, 2018, with someone possibly trapped inside. The arson investigator and a detective were dispatched to the scene. The remains of one unidentified person were located and pronounced deceased by the Martin County Coroner. The deceased was removed and taken to the Medical Examiner’s office in Frankfort for an autopsy and positive identification. At this time, the cause of death appears to be accidental.
