On Thursday, November 8, 2018, Prestonsburg Police Sergeant Ross Shurtleff was on patrol on US 23 near Kentucky 80 when he observed a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling southbound, driving erratically. The vehicle made an abrupt stop on the shoulder and a traffic stop was conducted. Sgt. Shurtleff learned the operator, identified as Jimmy Engle of Knott County, was driving on a suspended license. The subject appeared nervous and a new generator with locking security cables still attached was noticed in the back. Through investigation, it was determined that the generator had been stolen from a DeanBuilds work truck at Quality Inn in Prestonsburg. Engle was charged with driving on a suspended license, theft, and other charges. He was lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center. The generator was returned to the company.
