Bipartisan legislation has been pre-filed by state representatives Angie Hatton and Robert Goforth on Monday, November 19, 2018, that is designed to help more coal miners suffering from Black Lung. The legislation seeks to rollback the sections of a new law that limit the number of state-certified doctors eligible to diagnose black lung. Representative Hatton said it’s unfortunate legislators decided to make it tougher for miners to receive workers’ comp benefits at a time when the state, especially Eastern Kentucky, is seeing a spike in black lung. Representative Goforth said they owe it to the coal miners and all of Kentucky’s workers to right the wrongs that happened as a result of House Bill 2. The legislation will be considered when the General Assembly re-convenes at the Capitol in January.
