The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services announced that the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has approved the Commonwealth’s Section 1115 Medicaid waiver, known as Kentucky HEALTH. The program includes a rewards system for healthy activities and requires some adults to participate in community engagement activities. Kentucky HEALTH is estimated to save the Medicaid program $2 billion during the five-year demonstration period, with more than $300 million in savings to Kentucky’s General Fund. Kentucky House Democratic Leadership issued a statement, saying there was little difference in the approved Medicaid waiver from the one dismissed by a federal judge in the summer. Additionally, the statement said the system was unnecessary, with savings coming from removing health coverage from nearly 95,000 Kentuckians.
