Attorney General Andy Beshear is calling on state lawmakers to boost the pension system in the upcoming session by expanding gaming to create a dedicated source of revenue. He said this approach would free up other sources of state revenue to fund education, fight the drug epidemic, and provide health care. Beshear currently has a lawsuit against Senate Bill 151, the 2018 pension bill, before the Supreme Court of Kentucky. While no cost analysis has been released for SB 151, the previous bill, Senate Bill 1, calling for pension overhaul was reported to add $5 billion in costs to Kentucky Retirement Systems over the next 35 years.
