Flags Lowered to Half-Staff in Honor of Kentucky Serviceman Who Died in Korean War

Governor Matt Bevin has directed that flags at all state office buildings to be lowered to half-staff on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, in honor of a Kentucky serviceman who was killed in action during the Korean War, but whose remains were only recently identified. Army Private Robert Sipes, Jr, 19, died on November 30, 1950, was accounted for on October 23, 2018, and will be buried in his hometown of Irvington on Wednesday. While flags are presently at half-staff to honor former President George H.W. Bush, Wednesday’s flag lowering will also honor Private Sipes.
