On Wednesday, December 19, 2018, around 3am, Martin Police Office Brad Stidham was on routine patrol when he observed the driver of a silver 1999 Toyota Corolla with a headlight out. A traffic stop was attempted, which led to the driver fleeing on KY 122 in Martin toward the Printer community at speeds exceeding 65 mph. The driver lost control of the vehicle in Printer, due to hitting a patch of ice. The subject was observed exiting the vehicle and running. Following a foot pursuit, Officer Stidham apprehended the subject. Kenneth Franklin Spurlock, age 28, of Printer, was charged with speeding over limit in a school zone, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a handgun by convicted felon, drug possession, and numerous other charges. He was lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center.
