On Friday, January 25, 2019, around 7pm, the Hazard Police Department arrested Steven Smith of Raccoon Creek at a local hotel. Lt. John Holbrook responded to a drug complaint when Smith walked by him, emitting a strong odor of marijuana. While on scene, Smith attempted to discard a large amount of drugs. The drugs were recovered by Lt. Holbrook. Smith was charged with public intoxication, trafficking in controlled substance, prescription not in original container, possession of drug paraphernalia, and tampering with physical evidence. He was lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail.
