Beshear Opposing Legislation Granting Cabinet Secretary Decision-Making Power on Lawsuits

Attorney General Andy Beshear is opposing legislation that would give a cabinet secretary appoint by Governor Matt Bevin the exclusive decision-making power over whether and how to settle lawsuits brought by the Office of the Attorney General. In testimony before the Senate State and Local Government committee, Beshear called Senate Bill 41 a “power grab” by the governor. If passed, the bill would allow the Finance and Administration secretary the decision-making authority to settle matters for which a legal personal service contract has been awarded.
