Call Increase to Kentucky’s Elder Abuse Hotline

The Attorney General’s Office of Medicaid Fraud and Abuse is reporting an increase of 70 percent from 2016 to 2018 on calls of abuse, neglect or exploitation or a patient or resident in a state care facility through the state’s Elder Abuse Tip Line. Since expanding the tip line to run 24 hours a day, the number of calls grew from 168 in 2016 to 287 in 2018. Attorney General Andy Beshear said the large increase in the volume of calls from concerned family members shows the necessity of expanding this service to help protect our parents and grandparents. Kentucky law requires that any person who suspects that an adult has suffered abuse, neglect or exploitation report it to authorities.
