The University of Pikeville will host Sgt. 1st Class J. Andrew Porter, a member of the US Army’s Hellcats Drum Corps, on Tuesday, March 5, 2019. During the day-long workshop, which is open to regional band programs, Porter will share his expertise on percussion performance and offer advice on working in the music industry. Prior to his appointment with the Hellcats, Sgt. Porter was assistant band director at Barren County high School in Glasgow, KY. UPIKE director of bands Michael Phillips, Ph.D., said they are excited to share this opportunity with band students throughout the region. UPIKE’s Day of Percussion workshop will begin at noon Tuesday in Booth Auditorium and conclude at 8pm. Sessions will include small group activities, interactive drumming rudiments and techniques, and more.
