Governor Bevin Joins Coalition to Restore Citizenship Question to 2020 US Census

Governor Matt Bevin has joined a coalition of 17 states in a US Supreme Court amicus brief supporting the Trump administration’s ability to restore a question about citizenship to 2020 US Census forms that will be disseminated to all American households next year. The amici argues that US District Judge Jesse Furman’s opinion to undermine the authority of US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross to have Census respondents indicate their citizenship, disregards the best interest of states. The brief notes that states rely upon demographic information provided by the US Department of Commerce when redistricting. The case will be heard by the Supreme Court in late April.
