Education and Workforce Secretary Hosts Roundtable Discussion on Kentucky Apprenticeship Program

In 2018, Kentucky became one of the first states in the nation to implement a program to include public service apprenticeships as part of the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet job classification. On Friday, March 8, 2019, Education and Workforce Development Cabinet Secretary Derrick Ramsey hosted a roundtable discussion to highlight civil service apprenticeships and share findings from the Urban Institute report entitled “Leading by Example: Public Sector Apprenticeships in Kentucky.” Modern apprenticeships are an employee training program that combines classroom instruction and on-the-job training, which Kentucky has used to fill workforce pipelines. Secretary Ramsey said the program is one of the first of its kind in the nation and showcases how Kentucky is pioneering workforce solutions.
