House Bill 114 Amended to Remove Secretary of State of its Overnight of State Board of Election

On Thursday, March 14, 2019, the Kentucky General Assembly amended House Bill 114 to include Senate Bill 34, a bill previously defeated in the House Committee on Elections. The bills strips the Secretary of State of its oversight of the State Board of Election. Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, Kentucky’s chief election official, called the legislation a “power grab” and said if it becomes law, could put the security of Kentucky’s elections at risk. Grimes added she will be carefully reviewing the legislation and take any legal action necessary to preserve the orderly administration of the the upcoming elections.
