Woman Sentenced for Identity Theft Charges

An East Bernstadt woman has been sentenced for Identity theft. Sharon Hall, 68, was sentenced on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 in the United States District Court in London, on conviction for bank fraud and aggravated identity theft. Hall was convicted in January 2018. Evidence at trial established that during an 18 month period between 2007 and 2008, Hall applied for and received student loans from at least six difference lenders, in the names of her children, niece, and nephew, without their knowledge. She received over $93,000. Hall paid back $23,000, with the remaining $70,000 written off by lenders. Hall was ordered to pay restitution to the banks and students whose names she used. Additionally, she was sentenced to 36 months in federal prison.
