Bevin Vetoes House Bill 358

On Tuesday, April 9, 2019, Governor Matt Bevin vetoed House Bill 358, legislation passed by the General Assembly to provide pension relief for Kentucky’s quasi-governmental entities by allowing them to leave the Kentucky Employers Retirement System. In a statement, Governor Bevin said that he appreciated the work of legislators to protect services provided by many quasi-government entities, but parts of HB 358 violated moral and legal obligations to those retirees. He concluded his statement by calling for a special session of the Kentucky General Assembly prior to July 1, 2019 to resolve the issue. A date for the special session has not yet been set.
